Our fields were the talk of the town, and were the backdrop for hundreds of photos, including ours." On our farm we are always striving to improve the diversity of our crop rotation as well as grow more food grade crops. Sunflowers are such a different creature than any other crop I had been around. The plant has such a unique way of growing and has many benefits that fit particularly well in an organic production system. The roots, the leaves, the biomass, and the impact the plant has on its ecosystem (such as helping pollinators) all make it a great fit for my farm. And when five hundred people show up in an afternoon to take pictures with something you grew? It is impossible not to smile! "2020 was a good experience raising sunflowers for Perdue. A cold, wet Spring caused us to have to replant the entire field, but Mike Garland was helpful in quickly getting us seeds for the replanting.
