Peoples Underwriters

The personal service of Peoples Underwriters, Inc. is well into its second generation. Established by four local business leaders, Peoples Underwriters, Inc. opened its doors in 1959 near its present location, 400 Main Street, Conway. In the Fall of 2000, Peoples Underwriters, Inc. opened its second location in Carolina Forest, 200 Ronnie Court, My... rtle Beach. When they started the agency, C. A. Spivey, B. L. Spivey and L. N. Clark were directors and principal operations officers at Peoples National Bank. P. A. Thompson joined them from a local finance and insurance company. Together, they created Peoples Underwriters, Inc. , and in 1968, Thompson acquired all stock and became sole owner. Since then, Frank A. Thompson, II, Philip C. Thompson and Margaret Thompson became stock holders in the Agency. P. A. Thompson retired in 1990. In 1996, Frank A. Thompson, II became sole owner. Dana Groome acquired ownership in 1999 and Delan Stevens acquired ownership in 2006. The two of them retained ownership in the nearly fifty-year-old agency after the passing of Frank Thompson in 2007. Peoples Underwriters, Inc. operates as a member of the Independent Insurance Agents of America, in South Carolina and Horry County.
