People for Quality Care is committed to increasing the quality of care for people living with various medical conditions. For this reason, we are pleased to announce that we will be helping the COPD Foundation in their efforts to recruit patients to the first ever COPD Patient-Powered Research Network (COPD PPRN). The COPD Patient-Powered Research... Network is an opportunity for patients with COPD to plug into a supportive community of individuals who want to revolutionize COPD research. Patients enroll online and share their health information and the impact the disease has on their lives. Operated and governed by groups of patients and their partners, the information is kept in a secure database to be used for research - ultimately leading to a deeper understanding of the disease. People for Quality Care will help recruit patients to the network by promoting it through social media outlets, a direct-mail campaign, home medical equipment providers, insurance companies and other mediums. "In our conversations with COPD patients, we have learned about the difficulties they face, the concerns they have and at times, the helplessness they feel," comments Kelly Turner, director of advocacy for People for Quality Care. "The COPD PPRN is key for these individuals. It offers them support and control over the disease, because they are working with others to end it." John W. Walsh, president and co-founder of the COPD Foundation adds, "As someone living with COPD, I consider the COPD PPRN a huge step forward in terms of the level of research that is needed to refine testing and diagnosis, improvements and find a cure.
