Peak Sun Silicon Corporation (Peak Sun) is a development stage, Delaware corporation founded by Dr. John C. Schumacher and Stephen J. Schumacher to develop and commercialize the closed loop, fluid bed process (Schumacher Process) for production of high purity silicon conceived, patented, and initially developed at J.C. Schumacher Company (JCSCo). S... uccessful development and commercialization of the Schumacher Process will complete a journey begun in 1977, when process development commenced with an award from the US Department of Energy (USDOE) under the Large Area Silicon Solar Array (LASSA) project, "...to develop a low cost, low energy intensity, process for making "PV" Grade silicon that would be suitable ($1USD/W, 1975USD, and 1-2 year energy payback) as feed for continuous growth of silicon sheet to be used in fabrication of silicon solar cells for terrestrial applications." Following a hiatus in process development, after the 1986 sale of JCSCo's core business to Air Products, the rights to the Schumacher Process were contributed to Peak Sun with the objective of completing the journey to develop a low cost, energy efficient, process for making silicon for use in fabricating crystalline silicon (c-Si) solar cells. Peak Sun is prepared to immediately begin construction of a fully integrated, silicon demonstration plant capable of running on a 24/7 basis and producing 50 metric tons per year (mtpy).
