Patonga Beach Hotel

Patonga means 'little oyster' in the Guringai people's language, whose country stretched from the north side of Port Jackson to the southern end of Lake Macquarie. Early English language maps of the area spelt Patonga as "Betonga". It is now a working fishing village at the southern end of the Central Coast, entirely surrounded by Brisbane Waters N... ational Park. Head up the hill from the southern end of Umina Beach, past the turn off to Pearl Beach and keep going - you'll find Patonga at the end of the road. After coming down the hill, keep going straight and you will find the local boat ramp. A short stroll along the beach is 'Dark Corner' where you will see half a dozen original houses perched between Brisbane Waters National Park and The River. From here you can walk to Pearl Beach via a fire trail,a beautiful trip that will take about 2 hours. Swing to the right after the hill and you will quickly spot the wharf on your left, great for a spot of fishing, and the place to catch a ferry to Palm Beach. Directly opposite is the fish & chip shop with fresh fish from the river and hand cut chips to die for. Patonga Beach is a perfect place for families to swim, play or have a picnic. At the southern end of the beach is Patonga Creek, a great place for young children. Follow the northern bank around to the local caravan and camping park - Patonga Camping Area.
