Pathology Services

Our professional team has served the Berkeley and Oakland areas for almost thirty years. We are accredited by the College of American Pathologists (CAP) and we were founded by academically oriented anatomic pathologists. From the moment we opened our doors, we have continually demanded the absolute highest standard in quality for technical services... offered in surgical pathology, cytology, histology, and immunohistochemistry. We support the medical staff and patients of Alta Bates Summit Medical Center (Berkeley and Oakland), Highland Hospital, UCSF Benioff Children's Hospital of Oakland, and local community physician offices. We have a team of highly skilled histotechnologists, certified Pathologists' Assistant, cytotechnologists, technical lab assistants and administrative support personnel. Our commitment to excellence has become well known in our local communities and we could not be more pleased. We are proud of the close working relationships we have developed with physician offices in the Bay Area who partner with us to provide excellent care to patients. PSI is not a direct care facility. All specimens and correspondence are routinely handled through the referring physician's office. Specimens are collected from local physician offices and outpatient surgery centers on a daily basis. Our independently contracted courier service has continually met our high standards of timely service. All medical billing is performed by Orion-Rand Medical Billing. We are the exclusive pathology lab for Alta Bates Medical Group and we accept private health insurance, publicly funded government insurance programs, and self-pay. We believe in personal service and understand that our patients have a say in where their biopsies are processed. Here at PSI our patients are more than just a bar code.
