PART (Piedmont Authority for Regional Transportation) is a regional transportation authority serving the Piedmont Triad region of North Carolina, operating a comprehensive public transit system and providing critical transportation planning services across multiple counties and municipalities. The organization manages a fleet of 36 vehiclesincludin... g Orion, Daimler Chrysler, and StarTrans buses ranging from 16 to 40 passenger capacitywith annual operating and capital budgets exceeding $15 million, supported by funding from the Federal Transit Administration and the North Carolina Department of Transportation. PART serves as the custodian of the Regional Travel Demand Model for four Metropolitan Planning Organizations and NCDOT, functioning as a key transportation planning tool that evaluates the effectiveness of transit enhancements and infrastructure investments across the region. The organization leads significant regional initiatives, including the Piedmont Triad Seamless Mobility Study, which assessed all transit and community transportation systems and generated 54 recommendations for improved operational efficiency and enhanced coordination among service providers. PART actively participates in the Regional Transit Technology Project alongside GTA, Hi-Tran, and WSTA, and serves as the facilitator of a multi-jurisdictional land use and transportation plan covering areas along the Guilford-Forsyth county line. The authority also houses the Triad Air Awareness program in partnership with the Forsyth County Environmental Affairs Department, bringing air quality information and solutions to the region while coordinating closely with PART's Transportation Demand Management and Marketing programs.
