Papasay Management Corporation was established in February 2009 by Bingwi Neyaashi Anishinaabek First Nation (BNA) in order to manage the community's economic interests. Papasay is led by an experienced Board of Directors with know-how in diverse industry sectors. The strength of the Board is evident by their leadership and commitment to creating high profile economic development initiatives throughout the Northern Ontario region. The corporation's vision is to establish thriving resource-based businesses and initiatives to support economic success and growth for BNA. To achieve its vision, Papasay is working to build a strong foundation, a strategic network of partners and the necessary infrastructure to attract and develop sustainable business opportunities. How do band-owned enterprises play a central role in creating wealth and employment for our community? Aboriginal communities must be able to gain access to capital, markets and management expertise in order to establish and grow their business enterprises. Many communities are creating development corporations in order to gain access to capital, manage their businesses and enter into joint ventures with corporations. Business development and growth are vital to achieving economic self-sufficiency for our community. What is unique about these businesses is that they are owned by and accountable to the community, and all members share the benefits. These enterprises use standard business practices while respecting traditional Aboriginal culture. They search for new opportunities to grow existing businesses by developing new products and/or expanding their markets.
