Pages to Pirouettes

Bringing the arts of storytelling and ballet to audiences of all ages since 1996, Pages to Pirouettes performs abridged versions of the grand story balletsCinderella, Sleeping Beauty, Copplia, The Nutcrackerat preschools, schools, museums, libraries, churches and synagogues, senior and special-needs communities and other venues that engage us for p... ublic and limited-audience shows. Founded by professional ballet dancers Susan Cade and Michele MacDonald, Pages to Pirouettes celebrates the arts of storytelling and ballet. Our audiences hear the story and then see it come to life through dance and music. We then close with time for our audience to dance with us through a brief ballet lesson (or chair ballet for those with limited mobility), ask questions, examine our costumes and pointe shoes, ask questions, take a photo. Our performances stand alone or are part of workshops, community engagement, fund-raising events, or other programs. For example, we toured Sleeping Beauty to neighborhood branches of the Free Library of Philadelphia to help kick off the summer reading program. We are always eager to work with partners to create special productions of our ballets or to present our ballets as part of a larger literacy or arts workshop. We have lots of ideas and would love to hear yours! We also work with partners to develop productions incorporating non- novice, or senior dancers. For example, The Turks and Caicos Friends of the Arts Foundation engaged us to stage and perform The Nutcracker with 70 local children and adults. Locally, we have created productions of The Nutcracker, Sleeping Beauty, and Copplia that include more than 20 residents from Shannondell at Valley Forge senior living community. Generous businesses, individuals, and groups donate our shows to underserved audiences or as fund-raisers for organizations or causes they care about.
