Pacific Crest

Over the last 20 years, Pacific Crest has made decisive progress in transforming educational processes, with special emphasis on the philosophy and practice of developmental mathematics. Over these years, Pacific Crest has helped specific colleges through use of a three-year program. Now Pacific Crest is creating a three-year developmental mathemat... ics professional learning community based on the philosophy and practices of Process Education, learning to learn mathematics, and active learning. We want to help up to 20 colleges work together to advance student performance in developmental mathematics. The community will meet twice annually, at face-to-face professional development institutes, with Pacific Crest facilitating content that focuses on different aspects of developmental mathematics. One of these institutes will be in January and one in the summer. It is our hope that these will be national gatherings similar to those practiced by the POGIL (Process Oriented Guided Inquiry Learning) chemistry community. Additionally, during the year there will be online meetings once a month with additional one-on-one mentoring, as needed, to support each learning community member.
