Ovako Imatra is strengthening its collaboration with local schools by becoming a new corporate partner of Universoma - Imatra Junior University. Ovako's primary target group is 8th-grade students, for whom the junior university offers activities within the "Future Living Environments" learning module. The City of Imatra is implementing Universoma in cooperation with LUT University and LAB University of Applied Sciences’ Junior University program. The "Future Living Environments" theme includes bOvako Imatra: Mill Properties Transition to Fossil-Free District Heating
For Ovako’s Imatra mill, the transition to fossil-free district heating will bring significant cost savings and reduce the mill's carbon dioxide emissions by approximately 1,600 tons per year. The buildings outside Ovako Imatra’s industrial area, such as the head office, were connected to district heating in 2023, and now Imatran Lämpö Oy is expanding its distribution network to include the industrial area as well.
