Our Minds Matter

We are a volunteer-led registered charity focused on raising mental health awareness in the communities in Bedfordshire. The project started in 2014 and the charity was founded in 2015 by University of Bedfordshire PhD student Jolel Miah and was awarded charity status by the charities commission in 2016. The official launch was at the University of... Bedfordshire in 2017 with support from the academic and wider mental health community in Bedfordshire. Currently, we have no funding for our work and solely rely on our generous volunteers including our trustees. Last year we had a small grant to keep us going but times are hard for charities so we welcome any help with this. We understand the challenges that community leaders, health service providers, employers, commissioners and stakeholders are facing when reaching out to the diverse population of Bedfordshire We have been actively involved in raising the profile of mental health in partnership with statutory and non-statutory organisations along with faith groups and other relevant charities. Our particular focus is to tackle the stigma and issues around mental health amongst communities in Bedfordshire. We offer mental health training to groups, organisations and conduct workshops which highlight the importance of the Five Ways to Wellbeing in order to educate, empower and engage those who may be affected or concerned by their mental health or that of others. The work we have done so far has been well received at charity events, community gatherings and educational establishment open days. We are open-minded to work with organisations who also feel that mental health should be at the forefront of any individual's health concerns We know that reducing the stigma of mental health is not easy and this why we work with our local and national partners to help us to deliver our mission.
