Since June 2002, OPRL has worked tirelessly on several fronts to make its Petroleum Refinery a reality. The results to date have been significant. Both the Federal Ministry of Environment (FMEnv) and the Department of Petroleum Resources (DPR) have approved the Preliminary Environment Impact Assessment (EIA) report on the refinery Project. On January 22, 2004, FMEnv formally approved the terms of reference for the detailed EIA studies, which have since started with wet season sampling of the soil and water at the project site and surrounding areas. The basic design of the Orient Petroleum Refinery was completed in August, 2003 by OPRL's engineering consultants, LaurenKamtech of Houston and Abilene, Texas, USA. The Ministry of Petroleum Resources and Department of Petroleum Resources of the Federal Government of Nigeria visited LaurenKamtech offices in Houston and Abilene, Texas in August 2003, analyzed the process design and confirmed that the products of the proposed Orient Petroleum's Refinery will meet the Nigerian specifications.Read More
