Orange Babies Namibia Foundation

OBNAM was started in 2006 as an initiative of Stichting Orange Babies (based in Amsterdam, Netherlands) and local Namibian individuals who shared a common vision of transforming the lives of women and children infected and affected by HIV/AIDS in Southern Africa. OBNAM is an independent Namibian welfare organization, registered with the Ministry of... Health and Social Services (WO384). Our preschool project at Otjomuise and the hostel at Five Rand Primary School are registered with the Ministry of Education. OBNAM has a Management Committee and a Country Manager responsible for the management of the projects and reporting back to our donors. Our projects are based in two vulnerable communities: Otjomuise, Windhoek and Five Rand Camp, Okahandja . We have 31 staff members, most of whom are from the local communities. Originally, OBNAM worked with HIV / AIDS infected mothers and children. As time passed, our services extended to include orphans and other vulnerable and severely neglected children. Our largest project is Okahandja Circle, at Five Rand Camp , an extremely poor area outside Okahandja. Here, in partnership with the Five Rand Primary School, we provide afternoon activities, homework support, life skills education, basic health and hygiene education and support, as well as meals to +-580 vulnerable children, training to our own staff, community mothers and members of the community, and Wellness and HIV Testing Campaigns. During 2018, our major achievement was the opening of the Orange Babies Hostel. Forty (40) vulnerable scholars, identified by the Five Rand Primary School and community mothers, have moved into the hostel. The hostel is run and maintained by OBNAM. Otjomuise Circle was started by Stichting Pappa, another Dutch foundation, as a preschool facility for 40 children. This Foundation donated the building, projects and premises to OBNAM in April 2015.
