Ontemar S.A. is a logistic and port operator settled in Nueva Palmira, Colonia. It owns and administrates Frigofrut (refrigerated terminal), Sikler (free zone operator) and Factoril (30-hectare next to the port lot for logistics purposes). It also has 18% of the shares of Ontur (multipurpose port terminal) and 50% of the shares of Rioestiba (Port o... perator). The company was founded in 1992 by a group of fruit exporters in a joint venture with the Swedish ship company Cool Carriers and the Swedish Found for the cooperation to the developing countries. Its mission is to be a qualified participant in the agro-industrial supply line, offering logistics services to cooperate in the worldwide competitivity of the Uruguayan products. It is also involved in selling services for in-transit goods moving from and to the Paran-Paraguay river-system. Azucarlito, traditional agro-industry from Paysand, Uruguay, diversified its activities en the 80s with the citrus fruits development Azucitrus, and it became one of the fruit export leaders of our country. In the early 90s it started the logistics activities within the Frigofrut project; due to this success Ontemar and its branches were created. Shandy, a Uruguayan entrepreneurial group with 59 years of experience in the area of sea, port and logistics in our country and the region, has been a constant presence in Nueva Palmira's port.
