Online Ceramics aims to bring you the very best in contemporary British studio pottery. We have personally visited every potter and ceramic artist that features on this site in their studios. We have chosen with the potter representative samples of their work. Our minimum criterion is that every potter has worked professionally in ceramics for at l... east 10 years. However, most of those featured have well over 30 years experience. For added assurance our artists are all members or fellows of the Craft Potters Association. With our knowledge and their pedigree we are confident that Online Ceramics has put together what is amongst the finest examples of modern British collectables available today. Peter Ward, the founder of Online Ceramics, has had a life long interest in studio pottery. Peter first discovered studio pottery during a rainy school art fieldtrip to Plymouth's Barbican when his art teacher took the class to see John Pollex working in the Barbican Craft Workshops. Soon afterwards Peter, at the age of 14, went on to work for John until he went on to art college to study fine art three years later. During his time with John Pollex, the Barbican Craft Workshops were a hub of activity, with artists, potters and crafts people visiting regularly. Peter also went with John to the Craft Potters Association's Potters Camp where he met some of the giants of studio pottery such as Mick Casson, David Leach and Colin Pearson. After graduating with a degree in Fine Art, Peter went on to work in arts administration and continued to collect pots. After 37 years he remains close friends with John Pollex.Read More
