About Oksir
The Okanagan-Kootenay Sterile Insect Release (SIR) Program provides an environmentally friendly solution for managing codling moth populations in the Okanagan, Similkameen, and Shuswap Valleys. By raising and releasing sterile moths, the program effectively disrupts the mating process of codling moths, significantly reducing pesticide use. Since its inception in 1992, the program has achieved a 90% decrease in both codling moth populations and pesticide application per acre, benefiting the local fruit industry. OKSIR serves commercial orchard growers and residents within its extensive service area, promoting sustainable agricultural practices.Explore more
