Oklahoma Human Services, commonly known as OKDHS, is a state government agency responsible for promoting the safety, independence, and wellbeing of Oklahomans by providing help to vulnerable individuals and families to lead safer, healthier, and more independent lives. Under the supervision of the Oklahoma Secretary of Health and Human Services, Oklahoma Human Services operates through a complex organizational structure that includes agency leaders, division directors, and county offices in each of Oklahoma's counties. The agency encompasses several major program areas. Child Welfare Services works to prevent or reduce the abuse, neglect, or exploitation of children, provides permanency planning for children in the system, and preserves and strengthens families. Developmental Disabilities Services provides support to individuals with developmental and intellectual disabilities to lead independent and productive lives. Adult and Family Services provides public assistance to persons in need and assists adults with obtaining and retaining employment, including administering federal programs for food benefits and Temporary Assistance for Needy Families. Community Living, Aging and Protective Services helps develop systems that support independence and protects the quality of life and safety of older persons, while promoting citizen involvement in planning and delivering services. Child Care Services ensures Oklahoma families have access to licensed, affordable, quality childcare through assistance, licensing, and monitoring programs.
