Ohio Senior Classical League

So, what exactly is the SCL? "The National Senior Classical League is an organization founded to promote classical studies. We are the college-level affiliate of the National Junior Classical League, a similarly chartered high school organization. The parent organization of both the NJCL and the NSCL is the American Classical League, a professional... society of Latin and Greek scholars. Our primary duties are to help the NJCL at the annual national convention and to offer scholarships to SCL members." The Ohio Senior Classical League is a state chapter of the NSCL, and our members attend conventions at the state and national level. We are the people behind the scenes who help put on and run the various events at OJCL and NSCL conventions. Duties can vary from state to state, but the common denominator is: everything that gets done over the three days of Convention and you don't know how it happened, probably involves the SCL. We grade tests, help moderate Certamen matches, judge graphic arts contests, help check people in at registration, maintain a book award for graduating seniors, run errands, moderate creative arts contests, help lost JCLers, proctor tests, collect tests, etc. We don't sleep. At OJCL and NJCL, our duties include the above, but also include writing, editing, and printing a daily newsletter for JCLers called The Convention Ear, a humorous yet informative newsletter meant to let the JCLers know of all the goings-on at the weeklong convention, and to document the many inside jokes that occur.
