Ohio Scholastic Chess Association

The Ohio Scholastic Chess Association (OSCA) is recognized as a charitable, tax-exempt 501(c)(3) organization by the Internal Revenue Service, and is the official sanctioning body for scholastic state chess championships in Ohio. OSCA is made up of member schools which approve our Bylaws and elect the Board of Directors, who in turn oversee the org... anization's business throughout the year. Our main function is to sanction and regulate several state level chess championships: Grade Level, where students compete against only against other players in their same grade to earn the title of Ohio Champion of their respective grades, K-12; Elementary, open to students in grades K-6 competing for the title of Ohio Primary Champion (K-3) or Ohio Elementary Champion (K-6); Middle School, open to student in grades 6-8 competing to be the Ohio Middle School Champion; High School, open to students in grades 9-12 competing to be the Ohio High School Champion and to represent our state in the national Denker Tournament of High School Champions conducted by the United States Chess Federation (USCF); Girls, open to girls in grades K-12 competing to be the Ohio Girls Champion and to represent our state at the national girls championship, also conducted by USCF; and Team, open to teams of 4-6 players from the same school. Championships are usually organized by various groups throughout the state, who apply to the Board to be chosen as the host of each.
