Observatorio Ciudadano

The Observatorio Ciudadano (Citizens' Rights Watch) is a non-profit and non-governmental organization devoted to the advocacy, promotion and documentation of human rights. It was founded in September of 2004, in the city of Temuco, Chile, as the Observatorio de Derechos de los Pueblos Indígenas (Indigenous Peoples' Rights Watch) by a group of citiz... ens from diverse places of the country, varied professions and ethnic origins. The work developed so far has been multidisciplinary and intercultural. Since 2008 its mandate has broaden to address new emerging human rights challenges, modifying its name to Observatorio Ciudadano (Citizens' Rights Watch), always orientated by the guidelines contained in the current international instruments of human rights and of the rights of indigenous peoples. The Observatorio Ciudadano has offices in Temuco and Santiago, Chile. Although its work focuses mainly on domestic issues in Chile, through its networks with the International Federation of Human Rights and the ESCR-Net, of which the Observatory is member and its collaboration with, among other entities, the International Work Group for Indigenous Affairs (IWGIA), it has increasingly focused on initiatives of regional scope in Latin America.Read More
