Nuclear Fuel Complex (NFC), established in 1971, is a pivotal industrial unit of India's Department of Atomic Energy. Operating within the manufacturing and chemicals sectors, NFC specializes in the critical supply of nuclear fuel bundles and advanced reactor core components. This unique facility integrates the production of natural and enriched uranium fuel, alongside zirconium alloy cladding and essential reactor components, all manufactured under a single operational roof. Its strategic importance is underscored by its role in India's nuclear power program, contributing significantly to the nation's energy independence and technological advancement.

With an employee range of 1,000 - 5,000 individuals, NFC operates from a single primary location, focusing on precision manufacturing. The complex converts natural uranium into high-quality nuclear fuel assemblies. A standard 220 MW PHWR fuel bundle comprises 15.2 kg of natural uranium dioxide (UO2). These UO2 pellets are encased in hermetically sealed zirconium alloy tubes to contain radioactive fission products, ensuring operational safety. NFC supplies these zircaloy-clad uranium oxide fuel assemblies and zirconium alloy structural components to all 14 operating atomic power reactors across India.
