Nortec Consulting has been operating in Smithers, British Columbia since 1980, providing aquatic environmental services throughout northwestern and central BC. This long history has allowed its staff to develop deep and intimate understanding of northwest resource concerns, the history of resource use in British Columbia, and changing practices wit... hin resource industries. Building on this knowledge and experience Nortec Consulting has recently opened a second office, in Victoria. The two partners, Dr. Sean Mitchell and Mr. Gordon Wadley, each have more than 30 years experience with fish, fish habitat, aquatic and marine ecology. We have been working together on projects since 1997 and possess complementary skill sets based on our extensive experience; Nortec Consulting projects then build on these complementary skills and experience. We have worked closely with a large variety of clients, including engineering and environmental consulting firms, First Nation governments, municipal governments, industry, and non-profit organizations. We are particularly proud of our working relationship with First Nations throughout the Skeena Valley. The people of Nortec Consulting believe believe in an improved development and permitting processes beyond the typical tick box exercise. The tick box exercises are standardized to such an extent that they cannot adequately protect the uniqueness of site specific characteristics. These regulatory exercises may be completed by less experienced staff with other companies. But to develop projects which are truly protective of the aquatic and marine environments requires deep knowledge, specialization, and experience.
