We are proud to be working in close partnership with the Auguste Deter Foundation ( www.ad.foundation ), an emerging nonprofit named in honor of the first person diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease. The mission of the Auguste Deter Foundation is to Prevent Alzheimer's NOW! through educational programs and by providing grants for basic research into... Alzheimer's disease. We are a proud supporter of the Auguste Deter Foundation and have pledged to donate a portion of proceeds to the Foundation. NooMeds was founded by neuroscientists actively engaged in research on memory and aging. Like all scientists, we are motivated by the desire to help people. However, for the brain and memory, the traditional road of developing FDA-approved drugs to prevent age-related changes is long and costly. At the same time, excellent evidence from basic research, primarily in animal models, has shown that there are ways to safely support memory and maintain brain health throughout life. NooMeds was founded on this philosophy: keep your brain healthy now with the best of currently available science. As a company founded and operated by neuroscientists engaged in basic research on learning and memory, we are excited beyond words by the opportunity to help real people concerned about their memory. Most basic researchers have only a tiny chance to actually make an impact, and it is an indescribable feeling to be able to make a real difference for real people. About our name: the "Noo" prefix may be, well, new to some people. It comes from the Greek word "nous," which stands for "intellect" or, in some philosophy circles, "mind." It is perhaps best known as part of the word "nootropics," a clever word for what are better known as "smart drugs." The "Meds" part is easy: it's short for medicines, although we must emphasize that our products are not prescription products, are not FDA-approved, and--by law--we cannot make specific medical claims.
