Newcastle School is committed to do our best to keep students and staff healthy and safe during our 2020-21 school year. Additional policies and procedures will be implemented as necessary throughout the year. The following updates have been made to our policy: UPDATES AS OF SEPTEMBER 23, 2020: Due to the recommendations from the CDC and the Salt L... ake County mandate currently in effect, all adults and students over the age of 2 are asked to wear masks while in the school. Per the CDC, masks must be worn with a face shield, and exceptions for the use of a face shield only are allowed only when deemed necessary. At Newcastle, such exceptions for our teachers are likely to occur during circle time-the time used in class to present the weekly theme, new concepts, pronunciation of new letters or words and instructions for the day's activities. Any other exceptions must be approved by the Director/Owner. Teachers wearing face shields without masks for these exceptions will maintain 6 feet of social distance. Per the Salt Lake County mandate in effect, ALL students age 3 + are asked to bring and wear a mask to school. As acknowledged by the CDC, "Younger children (e.g. preschool or early elementary aged) may be unable to wear a mask properly, particularly for an extended period of time. Wearing of masks may be prioritized at times when it is difficult to maintain a distance of 6 feet from others. Newcastle follows this line of thinking with students and masks at school. Continued policies without change: Any student or teacher with COVID-19 symptoms will be asked to stay home until symptoms subside or CDC guidelines have been met. Temperatures will be taken daily before entering the building for all students. Staff temperatures will be taken in the lobby before entering their classroom. Students with a temperature over 99.5 and any staff or adult with a temperature over 100.4 will be asked to stay home that day.
