About New Foundation Center
New Foundation Center is a grass-roots organization. In 1987, a handful of parents opened a clubhouse in Northfield where their adult children could receive support in managing their mental illness. At the same time, they advocated to bring psychosocial rehabilitation and supportive housing to the north suburbs. This new organization was named WilPower, meant to capture the value of a "powerful" idea in Wilmette, Illinois. Over time, WilPower grew and changed. In 2009 WilPower changed its name to New Foundation Center to more accurately reflect our role in supporting people with mental illness to grow into stronger individuals. Last year, NFC served more than 340 men and women with mental illness. We offer many different coordinated services as part of our recovery program, from support groups, illness education and management, and skill training to creative expression and social activities.
