A proud member of the Stage Directors and Choreographers Society, FRED STERNFELD currently works as a freelance director. Previously, he has served as Artistic Director for the Hathaway Brown Theatre Institute (HBTI) and the Fairmount Performing Arts Conservatory (FPAC) in Cleveland, Ohio; Lakewood Little Theatre/Beck Center for the Arts in Lakewoo... d, Ohio; and the Cleveland, Seattle and Dallas Jewish Community Centers. After working as a director in Dallas and Seattle, Fred settled in Northeast Ohio to raise his family. Freds body of work (over 130 shows in all genres) is represented by numerous honors and awards. He has worked at top Northeast Ohio theatres such as Beck Center for the Arts, Cain Park Summer Theatre, Dobama Theatre, Ensemble Theatre, the JCC Halle Theatre, Cesaers Forum, Karamu Performing Arts Theatre and more. Freds shows have collectively won more than 100 awards, including Cleveland Critics Circle, Cleveland Scene, and Times Tribute Awards. Fred is also involved with producing shows on Broadway. Along with his wife Randi, he is a producer of the Lortel Award winning and Tony nominated (Best Original Score) Be More Chill, the upcoming revival of The Secret Garden and a new musical by Jerry Zucker (film: Airplane, Naked Gun, Rat Race) currently titled Intermission, the musical. As an educator, Fred has created and run many critically-acclaimed programs. Previously, Fred was the founder and operator of the respected Hathaway Brown Theatre Institute (HBTI), Fairmount Performing Arts Conservatory (FPAC), and educational programs at the Cleveland, Seattle and Dallas Jewish Community Centers. Many of Freds students have moved into professional careers in major regional theatres, Broadway, and in film and television.
