Nelson Alarms is a family owned company with a history of putting customers first and consistently providing the best possible services and products. The business began in 1979 as Peter Laing Electrical, an electrical contracting business. Peter Laing built his client base through solid relationships and a reputation of good workmanship and had a f... ocus on training apprentices to grow the business. In 1989, Peter and wife Sheryl planned a two year stay in Sheryl's home town of Cairns, North Queensland. Peter employed an electrician he had trained himself to manage the business during this time. Working in Australia for a large electrical company exposed Peter to many large scale projects, which increased his experience and confidence in doing business at a greater scale. Upon returning to New Zealand, Peter had an opportunity to purchase Bruce Rollo's Security division, an existing security installation business based in Nelson. From the experience he gained in the last two years, Peter had the confidence to take the risk and purchase the business. Peter decided to take the opportunity and "Nelson Alarms" was born. 2008 was another milestone year, with Peter's eldest son Adrian joining the company as Business Manager. Adrian was returning from living in Wellington where he had completed a Business degree and spent two years working for a large corporate. Adrian returned home with a mission to take Nelson Alarms to the next level, which meant focusing specifically on security services. Adrian took the helm and got to work building the team and working on the business.
