The National Apprenticeships Program (NAP) was established in 1988 to address critical skill shortages within the Australian resources and energy sectors. In 2011, the initiative launched the Advanced Entry Adult Apprenticeship scheme, a specialized training pathway designed for experienced tradespeople lacking formal qualifications. This program enables participants to achieve certification in as little as 18 months, providing a vital solution to the projected shortage of skilled labor identified by the National Resources Sector Employment Taskforce. NAP operates as a multi-stakeholder initiative, garnering support from government bodies, training providers, and industry leaders to bridge the gap between existing trade experience and formal industry requirements.

East Coast Apprenticeships serves as the appointed Program Manager for the National Apprenticeships Program, overseeing its strategic execution and quality assurance. As a registered Quality Group Training Organisation based in Strathpine, Queensland, the entity manages the delivery of seven distinct trade pathways. These include Boilermaker, Welder, Pipe Fitter, Carpenter, Formworker, Dual Trade Electrical/Instrumentation, Diesel Fitter, Electrical Fitter Mechanic, Mechanical Fitter, and Plumber. The program utilizes a robust GTM strategy to ensure that adult learners receive high-quality, industry-relevant training that meets the rigorous standards of the Australian vocational education sector.
