Multimodal Engineering Corporation (MEC) was established in June 1986 as a technical representative and Maintenance and Repair supervisor company, responsible for carrying out several important tasks on behalf of Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha, Ltd. ("K" Line). Since 1986, MEC's responsibilities and assignments have grown somewhat, but we remain dedicated t... o our primary tasks: Minimizing M&R costs, mitigating equipment down-time, helping extend the life of "K" Line's equipment and offering technical support for "K" Line's business in North America. MEC provides support for "K" Line's business in many different forms. Among the most basic and perhaps the most important functions is the supervision of repair vendors. By frequently visiting with vendors, surveying equipment, carefully reviewing estimates and invoices, and generally making sure that each vendor adheres to agreed upon policy, "K" Line can be assured that vendors will perform their work adequately, honestly and at a reasonable cost. To carry out such tasks, each MEC regional office reviews various maintenance and out-of-service reports and coordinates with "K" Line America (KAM) to determine equipment needs. Each MEC office then sets repair objectives based on demand and other factors and works closely with the repair vendor to see that the objectives are met. Keeping aware of KAM's needs, the repair vendors capabilities and limitations and the current situation are extremely important. It is MEC's goal to continue performing these very important functions for "K" Line, while also adapting to and planning for the future. "K" Line has been recognized as an innovative steamship line and establishing MEC as its technical representative in the U.S. is an example of its creativity, adaptability and forward motion.
