"The heritage of our past is the treasure of our future... This web site was created to engage the citizens of Moweaqua in mining their collective cultural history. In the lifespan of the village, the Moweaqua Mining Corporation disaster of 1932 was a defining loss to the social, economic and emotional stability of the community. The generational m... emory of this event and the supporting physical evidence are now at risk of disappearing forever. Using locally owned historic documents, photographs and artifacts, "Mining More in Moweaqua" will provide an explanation how this single explosion represents a microcosm of Illinois coal mining history. Funding for this grant was awarded by the Illinois State LIbrary (ISL), a Division of the Office of Secretary of State, using funds provided by the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS), under the federal Library Services and Technology Act (LSTA). The Moweaqua Library has a few of the Moweaqua Coal Mine DVD's for sale. If you want to purchase one, be aware that there are not many left.
