My grandmother developed early onset Alzheimers when I was in my teens. I remember going to the long-term care facility to help with her feeding and care. My mother downsized my grandfather from his four-bedroom home to a retirement home, before downsizing was a thing. My mother leaned on me for emotional support and for physical help, and now, after all of these years, Im helping her as she ages. Over the past year and a half, I have had the pleasure of working with Pierette and Moving Forward Matters. I have had experiences as a personal trainer and life coach to many seniors for over ten years and realized that listening to and helping people is something that brings me great fulfillment and satisfaction. I have moved six times in the past ten years and have learned that purging and downsizing requires a lot of work physically but more emotionally for many people. Originally from Edinburgh, Scotland, I am married to an Officer in the Royal Navy currently living in Ottawa with my 2 wee boys (Innes, 3 and Struan, 5) and our 2 border terriers. I saw the opportunity to get involved with moving forward matters and jumped at it, having moved due to different military postings, most recently to Canada with just 1 container full of belongings for the whole family, I completely understand the feeling of leaving what feels like home and the fact that memories and belongings can sometimes feel inextricably linked. Chantal Désilets is a kind and compassionate team member who understands what its like to have to downsize and relocate. As a former army brat, her family was on the move every two to three years.
