Mount Calm Public Library

The mission of the library is to provide services and programs that will enlighten, educate, inform, and entertain. The Mount Calm Public Library, located at 222 Allyn Avenue, Mount Calm, Texas, provides free services to all residents of Texas. Founded in 1977, the library first occupied the old McKinney Drug Store building, moving to its present h... ome in 1980. Construction of the 4,200-square-foot building was achieved by a dedicated group of volunteers through private donations and various fund-raisers, without the use of any government money. The building is equally divided into two large rooms, one of which contains the library, the other housing a community room and kitchen. The community room is available for rent by individuals and organizations. For information on its use, please see the information contained in "Library Policies." The Mount Calm Public Library holds slightly over 15,000 books and other materials including videorecordings, such as tapes and DVDs. Available for use within the library are selected CD-ROMs. It has a small local history and genealogy collection, which is enhanced through the TexShare databases. The library has six public access computers connected to the Internet and one computer for young children's games. It has been a member of Central Texas Library System since 1984. System membership, which is granted when a library meets certain state-mandated criteria, confers many benefits, including consulting, continuing education opportunities, and access to such technologies as databases and assistance in preparing a web site.
