Mosaic Preparatory Academy

Mosaic is a PreK-5 public elementary school located in the heart of East Harlem. Mosaic will proudly open its doors to scholars in September of 2008. Mosaic Preparatory Academy's mission as a college preparatory elementary school is to provide every scholar with the skills and strategies necessary for success in elementary school, middle school, hi... gh school and beyond. Over the next two years, Mosaic will grow to be a PreK-8 campus community. Upon graduation, scholars will leave Mosaic being both bilingual and bi-literate through participation in our dual language program. Professors will help scholars develop a rich curriculum based portfolio that demonstrates their understandings in the various disciplines including English Language Arts, Spanish Language Arts, Science, Social Studies, Visual Arts, Music, Technology and more. At Mosaic we are proud to partner with various institutions that will afford our scholars the opportunity to further nurture their academic growth. Through our work with the Brooklyn Museum of Art third grade scholars will visit the museum three days per school calendar year for day-long workshops designed by BMA staff and Mosaic professor that align to the NYC standards in social studies and art. In collaboration with the Museum of the City of New York, scholars in grade four and five will participate in hands-on exploration of the world beyond themselves. Our sixth grade scholars will participate in the New York Historical society's Musical Project which incorporates history and music. Our younger scholars in grades PreK-2 will participate in various year long activities with Together in Dance to incorporate art into the literacy curriculum. Through our Book of the Month Program both scholars and faculty will collectively build character and community. Scholars will learn various principles that teach respect, trustworthiness, kindness, perseverance, and much more.
