Moore Charitable Foundation

Moore Charitable Foundation was founded by lifelong conservationist Louis Moore Bacon in 1992. The foundation provides support to initiatives that enhance conservation and protection of our natural environment. Mr. Bacon and the foundation have taken leadership roles in conservation, land preservation and habitat management, both receiving numerous... accolades for their steadfast dedication and commitment to protecting the environment. Most recently, Mr. Bacon committed to donate 90,000 acres of his Trinchera Blanca Ranch in Colorado's San Luis Valley in what will be the largest conservation easement with the federal government if the proposed Sangre de Cristo Conservation Area is approved. In January 2013, Mr. Bacon received the prestigious Audubon Medal from the National Audubon Society, an award that has only been given 51 times over the 107 years of the Audubon's existence. In the Bahamas, Mr. Bacon and Robert F. Kennedy, Jr., along with community leaders Reverend C.B. Moss and Sam Duncombe, among many others, led a campaign to defeat financers and developers who planned to destroy the historically and environmentally important site. As a result of their collective efforts, the developers were stopped, the Bahamas Clifton Heritage Authority was established and the Clifton Heritage National Park was created to protect Clifton forever for the benefit of the Bahamian people. Mr. Bacon's conservation achievements also include his donation of a conservation easement and development of a habitat restoration and management plan on Robins Island, Long Island, that will preserve the island as a haven for endangered shorebirds including Least terns and Piping plover; the restoration of an extensive habitat of rice fields, marshes and long leaf pine forest at Orton Plantation in North Carolina, which at the turn of the century was the home to the only known colony of great egrets, to increase the populations of egrets, herons and the endangered Red-cockaded woodpecker to the area.
