During the 1980s and early 1990s, the company was closely involved with the South African Roads Board (now the South African National Roads Agency Limited (SANRAL)) of the Department of Transport during its development of its Comprehensive Traffic Observation program, and soon became the major supplier of Traffic Event Loggers (TEL) and support sof... tware in Southern Africa. From these early days, Mikros Systems has continued to develop the range of TEL products to meet the demands of the modern traffic engineer and currently enjoys the position of supplying more than 90% of the local traffic logging equipment requirements. In Southern Africa, Mikros Systems supplies its range of products to Botswana, Swaziland, Lesotho and Namibia. During the mid 1990s, Mikros Systems entered into the international market with sales to Australia, Chile, Netherlands, Belgium, Austria, Switzerland, United Kingdom, Poland, Hungary and the United States. The TEL loggers with axle sensors have been successfully implemented as Toll Traffic Monitoring stations at Toll Plazas operated in South Africa. The data from these dual-station installations provide an excellent independent check on the toll operators and have proved to be an indispensable deterrent against fraudulent activities at the plazas. These systems are a standard requirement of SANRAL for monitoring their toll operations. Mikros Systems, through its licence agreement with the NITRR for capacitive weighing technology, developed the Vehicle Load Monitor (VLM). Police forces and truck operators use this easy to use, portable "Truck Scale" worldwide. Mikros Systems has developed a unique range of capacitive sensors capable of being used in Low Speed or High Speed Weigh-in-Motion applications.
