Immigration has risen to the forefront of policy agendas for governments in Latin America and the Caribbean in recent years. Countries that until recently had considered themselves migrant-sending nations are witnessing large-scale migration across their borders. Humanitarian, economic, environmental, and geopolitical crises have led to mass moveme... nts of vulnerable populations, primarily from Venezuela and Central America. These unprecedented flows have tested the capacity of governments in the region and have propelled policymakers to rethink their approaches to migration management, mobility, and immigrant integration. At the same time, many countries are seeing their diasporas return in large numbers, often with foreign-born relatives, and some are trying to attract international talent and skills to meet specific needs. It is in this extraordinary context that the Migration Policy Institute (MPI) has created the Latin America and Caribbean Migration Portalthe first comprehensive, curated online resource for data, research, and analysis on immigration policy in the region. The portal features: A selection of evidence-based reports by scholars, civil-society organizations, governments, international organizations, and other researchers who are on the front lines studying and addressing these migratory phenomena Original research and analysis in Insights written by MPI experts and leading external contributors. This portal aims to help fill the current knowledge gap and guide policymakers, practitioners, and researchers to existing authoritative research and innovative practices and initiatives; highlight existing and emerging actors who are playing a role across different sectors; and foster the exchange of information and best practices. Its main objective is to serve as a resource to support pragmatic, evidence-based policymaking that addresses the needs of displaced populations and host communities alike.
