Metronome is a British record label which specializes in producing classical music recordings. The label has focused on recording music which is at the cutting edge of classical music performing practice. This means it records contemporary classical music, early music and also works from the standard classical music repertoire where we believe musi... cians are doing important creative work. We aim to champion the work of living composers in widely different styles - recent recordings have been released of the music of Piers Hellawell, Adrian Williams, Richard Rodney Bennett, Harrison Birtwistle, Salvatore Sciarrino. We also make a commitment to the performing artist to share their creative journey and to produce a body of work on record which reflects their performing lives. Among past and present performers who have embarked on this journey are , the Brindisi String Quartet, Orlando Consort, Concordia, Carole Cerasi, Christ Church Cathedral Choir, Nicolas Hodges. We hope to delight our listeners in the creative and interpretative imagination of our performing artists, the quality of the recordings and the presentation of their ideas. Metronome Recordings Ltd was founded in 1992 by its present owner Tim Smithies. The company is proud to have won international awards including two Gramophone Awards and two Diapason D'Or de l'Année. In 2002 a related company, Metronome Distribution Ltd, was set up to offer a distribution service in the UK and Eire for labels in complementary fields , there are currently some 7000 titles available through this service.Read More
