Using the mission as the foundation, our Board of Directors developed a Strategic Plan that wants success for our students, every day. There are three-student-centric goals that are part of this plan: Enhancing our academic offerings to meet the needs of today's student while here and after graduation. Integration technology throughout the learning process. Ensuring financial and facility strength through stakeholder engagement. All Sisters of Mercy trace their roots to their founder, Mother Catherine McAuley of Dublin, Ireland. In September 1827, she opened the first House of Mercy, as a place to shelter and educate women and girls. In 1831, Catherine founded the Sisters of Mercy. Their passion for teaching is what brought the Sisters of Mercy to Omaha in 1864. They have been part of Omahas educational community ever since. The Sisters opened the first Catholic school in the area at Mount St. Mary Seminary, located at 24th and St. Marys. After years of planning and careful design, Mercy High School officially opened its doors at 48th & Woolworth on November 2, 1955. Nearly 675 students attended classes that year: over 150 students from St. John's, over 300 from St. Mary's, and over 200 in Mercys first freshmen class. Some things have changed through the years. The school has undergone renovations. Some things have remained the same. Historic Morton Meadows has always been our home.
