Mercury Appliances Ltd was founded in 1999 by the commercial catering equipment manufacturing Group, Lincat Group plc, to manufacture a range of exclusive kitchen appliances and products. Lincat's long experience of manufacturing stainless steel cooking equipment and the popularity of using stainless steel in current kitchen designs were key factor... s in the decision to proceed. Knowing that it could not outspend its competitors in an advertising-led marketplace, Mercury decided to build its reputation on innovative design and an almost obsessive attention to details. Having formed a successful collaboration with internationally renowned product designers, Seymourpowell, the Mercury RC1090 range cooker was launched in January 2000, followed shortly thereafter by a built-in hob, oven and grill. Innovative features of RC1090 include machined aluminium control knobs and bezels, auto-ignition gas burners, 'cattle-grid' cast iron pan supports, a unique roll-out grill and a concealed storage drawer. In November 2003 Mercury's RC1090 range cooker reached the finals of the design industry 'Oscars', the Design Effectiveness Awards. It was also short-listed for the prestigious Homes & Gardens and V & A classic Design Awards in 2001 and in 2002, won a Good Design Award from the Chicago Athenaeum. In June 2004, based on research into contemporary colour trends, Mercury, launched the Beachcomber collection, a new range of colours for RC1090 range cooker, followed by the Natural range of colours in 2006. Mercury products are designed and built by a dedicated team at Lincat's 100,000 sq ft ISO9001 approved manufacturing facility in Lincoln. Mercury has developed an extensive UK dealer network of prestigious kitchen specialists and large electrical retailers. The relationship with Seymourpowell has gone from strength to strength and all Mercury products are as a result of the collaboration.
