MEATE schools

The Middle East Association for Theological Education (MEATE) was founded in Cyprus in 1991 in order to strengthen the Church in the Middle East and North Africa by providing fellowship, networking, quality assurance and professional services for evangelical higher educational institutions located in the region. MEATE seeks to serve both theological schools and churches in the region, as the purpose of theological education is to strengthen and empower the Church. Creatively responding to the leadership needs of the churches is the primary criterion for the success of our network. MEATE has been admitted to (participant candidate) status in the International Council for Evangelical Theological Education (ICETE - www.icete-edu.org)through which it is linked to eight other evangelical associations across the world representing over 800 theological institutions of higher education worldwide. As a regional educational association the MEATE followed the advice of the ICETE leadership in 1992 and joined the continental ICETE member body the Asia Theological Association in 1993. Through relationship with the ATA, the MEATE has become known across Asia as an association of theological institutions and programs that serves evangelicals in the Middle East and North Africa. Several years ago when the ATA regionalized its association, MEATE was asked to coordinate ATA activities in West Asia. MEATE is a non-profit association governed by a General Assembly and represented by an Executive Committee that acts on its behalf and is accountable to the General Assembly.
