Meals on Wheels Ministry

Meals on Wheels Ministry began serving the home-bound elderly of Tyler, Texas in October of 1973, and since then, we have served well over 15 million meals. Today, we serve about 3,000 daily clients in Gregg, Henderson, Smith, Van Zandt, Upshur and Wood counties - an over 4,000 square foot service area. Our clients are disabled and/or home-bound se... niors who for a wide variety of reasons can no longer meet their own nutritional needs. Senior hunger is an issue that defies all socio-economic backgrounds and infiltrates every neighborhood and community in the nation. No matter the challenges they may face, our clients deserve to enjoy the dignity of living independently, in their own homes, not suffering in hunger and isolation. We deliver so much more than a meal! Our volunteers develop long term, personal relationships with the seniors they serve, oftentimes providing the only regular human interaction our clients may enjoy. They also provide an invaluable daily safety check, ensuring the health and wellness of those we serve each day. Due in large part to the contributions of over 1,000 volunteer drivers and thousands of private donors, Meals on Wheels Ministry is able to meet the entirety of the need in East Texas and maintains a no-waiting list policy.
