MassBike/Pioneer Valley is a chapter of MassBike, the statewide bicycle advocacy non-profit organization. Our region includes the urban centers of Springfield and Holyoke; the rural hilltowns in the Eastern Berkshires; the cities of Greenfield, Northampton, and Amherst; the Five Colleges (Amherst, Hampshire, Mt. Holyoke, Smith, and UMass Amherst);... and numerous other communities in Hampshire, Hampden, and Franklin Counties. Our goals are to: Maintain a visible, vocal, and effective coalition of bike advocates throughout the Pioneer Valley. Support bike- and pedestrian-friendly legislation in our towns. Establish bicycle/pedestrian/transportation committees in every town in the region. Make our roads safer for cyclists through education programs for both drivers and bicyclists. Fight for bicycle- and pedestrian-friendly infrastructure on our roads and in our communities: bike lanes; bike paths; RailTrails; bike parking; wide sidewalks; public open space and parks; etc. Defend livable communities and lifestyles by offering alternatives to automobile dependence, including public transportation.
