Maryland General Assembly

The Maryland Green Industry Council (formerly the Maryland Greenhouse Growers Association) is a nonprofit membership organization founded in 1970 that represents and serves the green industry across Maryland and surrounding states. With approximately 120 members spanning private horticultural businesses, government agencies, public and private gard... ens, educational institutions, and research organizations, the Council advocates for growers of greenhouse crops, ornamental plants, and cut flowersa sector representing the second largest agricultural cash commodity in Maryland. The organization fulfills its mission through a comprehensive range of member services and industry advancement initiatives, including the organization and facilitation of seminars and educational tours designed to foster information exchange and create business development opportunities among members. The Council disseminates technical and marketing information through its monthly publication, HORTFLASH, and maintains a horticultural business and services directory to connect members with relevant resources and vendors. In support of agricultural education and workforce development, the organization actively promotes University of Maryland agricultural research initiatives and provides scholarships to state colleges in horticultural and related fields. The Council plays a significant advocacy and legislative role, monitoring state and local legislation that impacts the horticultural business and education communities while representing member interests in the Maryland legislative arena.
