Marine Oasis

From their perspective, fish should be one of the most consumed proteins due to the health and sustainability benefits, but it was clear there were issues in the industry that kept these benefits from being fully realized by consumers. The initial idea for Marine Oasis was born from a simple question: What if we could improve the quality and sustai... nability of farmed fish to feed the world? From there, the team identified a few key problems including overfishing, high transportation costs (not to mention CO2 output), health concerns (mercury & microplastics), and lack of traceability. It became clear that the only way to sustainably feed the world with fish is through aquaculture (fish farming), but there were real and perceived concerns about fish farming practices (antibiotics, poor water quality, dyes, etc.). The single biggest driver of the aquaculture industry was undeniable though - what you feed your fish determines the quality, price, and sustainability of the end product. With a high fish-in/fish-out ratio (FIFO - pounds of wild feed fish required to produce a pound of farmed fish), aquaculture is still depleting our oceans at an alarming rate.
