Marine Engineering Consultants is a diverse company running out of Gold Coast, Brisbane and Mackay. MEC offers complete engineering services, aluminium boat building, refits, repowers and project management. We are service and sale agents for Northern Lights Generators, Lugger Diesel Engines, Wesmar Stabiliser, Lombardini Marine, VM Motori and serv... ices centre for Naiad Marine Systems, Grand Banks Motor Yachts, Hatteras Motor Yachts and Hargrave Motor Yachts. Marine Engineering Consultants was founded by owner and manager Murray Owen. Murray first made his break working for Lloyd Ships as an apprentice fitter before securing the job as Engineering and Slipway manager constructing approx 12 luxury motor yachts from 24 to 35 metres and carried out just as many refits. Murray was later approached by Australian Yacht Builders (AYB) to become operations manager in the construction of the vessel 'The Other Woman' a 192' all aluminium ketch rig luxury motor yacht. 'The Other Woman' was like no other yacht of it's time. Murray spent time in the USA managing and operating 'The Other Woman' cruising the East Coast, Bahama's and extended periods in Ft Lauderdale, Palm Beach and New York. Many staff from Marine Engineering Consultants have been with the company from when it first opened the doors in 1992 and worked along side Murray at AYB and Lloyds. All of MEC's staff have a passion for boats and perfecting the art of building and servicing superior motor yachts. After starting out at Hope Harbour on the Gold Coast, Murray moved the business to Gold Coast City Marina in 2001, along with a complete engineering workshop running out of Brisbane, this saw MEC expand. Over the years MEC has carried out numerous repair and refit jobs on Fantasea Cruisers and Cruise Whitsundays along with Hayman Island Luxury Passenger Ferries prompting Murray to start up a branch in Mackay.
