SIGNALMAN Kentucky Jockey Club (GII) winner and Blue Grass (GII) third Signalman spent his Sunday morning just walking the shedrow following a five-furlong workout on Saturday at trainer Kenny McPeeks barn, assistant Greg Geier said. The colt who races for the partnership of Tommie M. Lewis, Steve Crabtree, Dean Demaree, David Bernsen, Jim Chambers... and Magdalena Racing was not showing any ill effects from a slight, one-inch cut over his left eye, from bumping his head while in his stall. He worked the five furlongs in 1:00 on Saturday with jockey Brian Hernandez Jr. Signalman still needs a couple of defections to make the Derby field. McPeek plans to take the colt to Pimlico for the Preakness on May 18, no matter what happens in Louisville. SIGNALMAN WORKS - BUT CAN HE GET IN THE KY DERBY? Signalman, third place finisher in the Toyota Blue Grass Stakes in his last start for trainer Ken McPeek, worked this morning at Churchill Downs. The General Quarters colt went 5 furlongs in 1:00 flat. That was 6th best of 43 to go the distance. Looks like this one may not have the points to get in the Derby. Ran well over this track last Fall, too. Could be a factor late, if he gets in. But thats the biggest question right now over anything else. Can he get in? 3 year old filly TOOTSIE ( named after Kenny's mother - her name was Ann but she was called Tootsie) won her second start convincingly at Keeneland. Racing 1 1/16 in a MSW on he turf she mde a game and sustained drive from close to the back of the field to get her nose on the wire and win by a neck. She is owned by Magdalena Racing (Sherri McPeek) and David A Bernsen LLC and was selected by Kenny from the Fasig Tipton October slae for $25,000. The Elusive Quality filly has already earned twice that, Purchased as a yearling for $20,000 on behalf of Magdalena Racing, MOSCOW MINISTER (Power Broker) won his second race and has now won over $36,000.
