Recognizing the critical role that social-emotional development and mental health play in student success, Madison Parish School District has partnered with Northeast Delta Human Services Authority (NEDHSA) to implement evidence-based intervention and prevention programs district-wide. Beginning in August, the district launched Al's Pals: Kids Making Healthy Choices, an early childhood curriculum designed to build social and emotional competencies in young learners through real-life scenarios that teach health-promoting concepts and prosocial skills including emotional awareness, acceptance of differences, empathy, self-control, and anger management. The district simultaneously introduced Signs of Suicide, a targeted suicide prevention program for middle school students in grades six through eight that educates adolescents about the connections between suicide and depression. This dual-program approach reflects Madison Parish School District's proactive stance on addressing individual, family, and community trauma while equipping students with the resilience and coping strategies necessary to overcome early-life challenges.
