To this end, MAI has recently entered into an affiliation with Rothmann Phahlamohlaka Inc. based in Pretoria for the purposes of capacity and sharing of legal techniques in other fields of specialisation such as Patents, Copyright, or Constitutional Litigation. The Law Society of the Northern Provinces rules and guidelines informs the firms policy on conflict of interest. In the event that we experience a clash of interest the proper thing is to evaluate the interests of the different parties in the matter and to advice all the parties with regard thereto. In practice, conflict arises between a client and the firm, or the firm finds itself representing two clients who are adversaries. In simple terms, we take steps that will cause the least prejudice to all our clients. It also occurs where our firm has a certain benefit which may prejudice our client. In such cases we would request to be released from our mandate or let the client make the decision.The determining factor for us is the best interest of our clients. As our firm grows we will be ploughing back into the communities within which we operate.
