Lyneham Primary School

Lyneham was named after Sir William Lyne (1844-1913) Premier of NSW and Minister for Home Affairs in the Barton Government. The School was opened in 1959. It was a short distance from the historic Yass Queanbeyan road, which used to pass between the present primary and high school building sites. Lyneham Primary School is a two storey building situated in the natural, attractive setting of the inner Canberra suburb of Lyneham. The school has predominantly traditional style single unit classrooms. We also have two preschools on other sites, for those children who are four years old; one in Garling Street, Lyneham and one in Cotton Street, Downer. In addition to the classroom areas Lyneham Primary has: a comprehensive Library staffed by a full time Teacher Librarian, Dance Studio, Environment Centre, Gymnasium, Art/Science room, Music tutor rooms, spacious Assembly Hall with stage, After School Care program, Breakfast program (3 days a week). The school is generously supplied with convenient sporting fields and facilities. e are well equipped with resources for classroom curriculum use, library borrowing, sport, teacher professional learning and the creative arts. Computers and ipads are used in classrooms across the school, from Kindergarten to Year 6. We have Interactive Whiteboards (IWB's) in all classrooms. Internet access is used in classrooms and the library. Public sporting and leisure facilities are in close proximity to the school. These facilities include the Australian Institute of Sport complexes (AIS), Dickson Swimming Pool, the Lyneham Tennis, Cricket and Netball Centres, the ACT Hockey Centre and the ACT National Exhibition Centre.
